Telehandler Operator — Structural Steel & PEMB
About This Role
Operate rough-terrain telehandlers on commercial and industrial structural steel and pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) projects in and around Fort Wayne, IN. You’ll move, lift, and stage columns, rafters, girts, purlins, wall and roof panels, and other building materials to support steel erection crews. This is hands-on field work on active job sites. You’ll perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance, read lift plans, coordinate with crane operators and ironworkers, and follow OSHA and site safety rules at all times. Pay is competitive and based on experience.
What You'll Do
- • Safely operate telehandlers and rough-terrain forklifts on active commercial and industrial sites
- • Load, unload, transport, stage, and place structural steel and PEMB materials
- • Support steel erection crews by positioning columns, rafters, girts, purlins, wall and roof panels
- • Assist with rigging, signaling, directing crane lifts, and coordinating material placement
- • Conduct daily equipment inspections, perform basic preventative maintenance, and report defects
- • Maintain organized laydown yards and staged materials per site plans and supervisor direction
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 2 years operating telehandlers or rough-terrain forklifts on construction sites
- • Experience with structural steel or pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) erection
- • Knowledge of rigging, signaling, lift planning, and ability to read lift plans and drawings
- • Able to work outdoors in varied weather, lift heavy materials, and follow site safety procedures
- • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites
- • Forklift Operator certification and OSHA 10 certification (required)
