Traveling Heavy Equipment Operator

About this role

Join a traveling demolition crew as a Heavy Equipment Operator based out of Houston, TX. You will run excavators with grapples, shears and hammers, rubber-tired loaders, forklifts and related equipment on demolition-focused sites. This role moves from site to site — expect to be on the road most of the time and work hands-on with equipment and site cleanup. This position requires strong safety habits, routine equipment maintenance skills, and the ability to communicate equipment status and hazards to field supervision. Travel expenses, per diem, meals and lodging are provided; typical schedule averages about three weeks on the road with a long weekend home between assignments.

What you'll do

• • Operate excavators with grapples, shears, hammers and processors; run rubber-tired loaders, forklifts, compressors, pumps and hoists to move and process material.
• • Load and secure trucks, rig and attach lifting gear, consult load charts and use industry hand signals to move materials safely.
• • Perform routine equipment maintenance and inspections: fueling, lubrication, cleaning, basic adjustments and minor repairs; report major issues promptly.
• • Assist with site tasks when not operating equipment: backfill, spread fill, grade, and perform manual labor in variable weather; lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
• • Communicate daily with field supervisors on job progress, equipment condition and site hazards; may direct vehicle/equipment movement and supervise crew members.

What we're looking for

• • 5–10+ years heavy equipment operating experience, preferably with demolition work (excavator, loader, forklift).
• • Willing and able to travel up to 100% of the time (average ~3 weeks on-site, 1 long weekend home).
• • Able to pass background check and drug screening; medically able to wear a half-face respirator.
• • Competent in industry-standard hand signals, basic rigging and reading load-rating charts.
• • Physically able to climb into equipment, work in variable weather and lift up to 50 lbs when required.

Qualifications

• • 5–10+ years operating excavators, loaders and forklifts on demolition or heavy civil sites.
• • Medically cleared to wear a half-face respirator.
• • Able to pass background check and drug screen.
• • Comfortable using industry hand signals, basic rigging and reading load charts.
• • Able to travel extensively and work away from home for extended assignments.
• • Forklift certification, CDL or other equipment certifications are a plus.
