Heavy Equipment Operator

Houston, TX $23-$30/hr

About this role

Traveling Heavy Equipment Operator needed for demolition-focused projects based out of Houston, TX. You’ll run excavators with grapples, shears and hammers, loaders, forklifts and other support equipment on jobs across the region — travel up to 100% with an average three weeks on the road and one long weekend home. Per diem, meals and lodging provided while traveling. This is hands-on work: operate and maintain equipment, perform routine repairs, follow load charts and industry hand signals, and occasionally supervise crews or direct equipment movement. Pay is based on experience; successful candidates must pass a background check, drug screen and be medically able to wear a half-face respirator.

What you'll do

  • Operate excavators with grapples, shears, hammers and other attachments to demolish, process and move materials safely and efficiently.
  • Run rubber-tired tractors/loaders, forklifts and powered industrial trucks to load trucks, move materials and support site operations.
  • Start, inspect and perform routine maintenance: lubricate, fuel, clean, and make minor repairs; report major issues promptly.
  • Follow load-rating charts, use industry hand signals, and coordinate vehicle/equipment movement on site to maintain safe operations.
  • Perform manual labor when not operating equipment: site cleanup, lifting up to 50 lbs, rigging and attaching equipment to buckets or hooks.
  • Communicate hazards, equipment status and job progress to field supervision; may supervise other employees and direct equipment movement.

What we're looking for

  • Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time (average three weeks on the road, one long weekend home).
  • 5–10+ years of heavy equipment operating experience with demolition experience preferred.
  • Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Medically able to wear a half-face respirator and perform work in variable weather conditions.
  • Competent with industry-standard hand signals and basic rigging/load chart consultation.
  • Able to climb into equipment (3–7 ft), stand or walk long periods, and lift up to 50 lbs when required.

Qualifications

  • Forklift certification (preferred) and experience with powered industrial trucks.
  • OSHA 10 (minimum) or OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Heavy equipment operator certification (NCCCO or equivalent) preferred.
  • Respirator medical clearance/fit test or willingness to obtain one.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record preferred.
  • Spanish-speaking ability is a plus; must be able to pass background and drug screening.

What we offer

  • Per diem, meals and lodging provided while traveling.
  • Competitive pay based on experience.
  • Medical, dental and vision options.
  • 401(k) with company match and paid holidays.
  • Paid time off and opportunities for skill training and advancement.
  • Travel expense coverage and job site safety equipment provided.
