Traveling Demolition Heavy Equipment Operator

About this role

Join a traveling demolition crew as a heavy equipment operator working nationwide on building and industrial teardown projects. You’ll run excavators with grapples, shears, processors and hammers, plus loaders and other specialty machinery to safely process and move concrete, metal and debris. This is a travel-heavy role (up to 100% travel) with per diem, lodging and meals provided while on assignment. The position requires a strong safety mindset, routine equipment care, and the ability to work long shifts on active demo sites where following load charts and site safety rules is essential.

What you'll do

• • Operate excavators (grapples, shears, processors, hammers), loaders and other demolition equipment to lift, process and move concrete, metal and debris.
• • Perform pre-shift and daily equipment inspections, fueling, lubrication, cleaning and minor repairs to keep machines in service.
• • Consult load-rating charts and follow rigging/hoisting procedures for all major lifts; direct equipment and vehicle movement as needed.
• • Follow site-specific safety protocols, use required PPE, report hazards, and communicate with field supervision about task progress and equipment needs.
• • Work on multi-week travel assignments; assist with hands-on site cleanup, traffic control, and occasional supervision of other crew members.

What we're looking for

• • 5–10+ years operating heavy equipment in a demolition environment; strong background with excavators and demolition attachments.
• • Willingness and ability to travel up to 100% of the time on multi-week assignments; able to live on per diem and provided lodging during travel.
• • Physically capable of climbing into equipment (3–7 feet), standing/walking long periods, and lifting up to 50 lbs when required.
• • Competent with industry hand signals, load charts and basic rigging; strong commitment to following safety procedures.
• • Able to pass a background check and drug screening and medically fit to wear a half‑face respirator.

Qualifications

• • Valid driver's license and reliable travel availability
• • Current respirator medical clearance or willingness to obtain medical clearance and fit testing
• • OSHA 10 (preferred) or similar safety training
• • Rigging/hoisting certification or demonstrated rigging experience (preferred)
• • Able to read load charts and follow written and verbal instructions; basic mechanical troubleshooting skills
