Traveling Specialty Demolition Heavy Equipment Operator
About this role
Join a traveling demolition crew operating excavators and specialty attachments on projects nationwide while based out of Tallahassee, FL. This hands-on role focuses on safe, efficient processing of concrete, metal, and debris using grapples, shears, processors, hammers and loaders. You’ll travel up to 100% of the time (per diem, lodging, and meals provided), perform routine equipment care and minor repairs, follow strict lift/load charts and safety procedures, and communicate with field supervision to keep jobs moving. Ideal for operators with 5–10+ years demolition experience and a strong safety mindset.
What you'll do
- • Operate track and rubber-tire excavators with grapples, shears, processors, hammers and other demolition attachments, plus loaders and powered industrial trucks.
- • Safely lift, process and move concrete, rebar, metal and debris following load charts and site safety standards.
- • Perform daily equipment inspections, fueling, lubrication, cleaning and minor maintenance to keep machines ready.
- • Follow and enforce site safety protocols, identify hazards, and report issues to field supervision.
- • Assist with rigging, directing equipment/vehicle movement, and occasional manual labor (lifting up to 50 lbs).
- • Communicate clearly with crew and management about equipment needs, job progress and safety concerns.
What we're looking for
- • 5–10+ years operating heavy equipment in demolition environments (excavators with demolition attachments preferred).
- • Willingness and ability to travel up to 100% of the time; typically multiple weeks on assignment with scheduled home time.
- • Competent with industry hand signals and load rating charts; strong safety-first approach.
- • Able to climb into and dismount equipment (3–7 ft), stand or walk for long periods, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check; medically cleared to wear a half-face respirator.
- • Basic mechanical aptitude for routine checks and minor repairs on hydraulics, tracks/undercarriage and attachments.
Qualifications
- • Minimum 5–10+ years demolition heavy equipment operating experience
- • Valid driver's license and reliable work history; clean driving record preferred
- • Medically cleared and fit-tested (or able to be fit-tested) for a half-face respirator
- • Ability to pass background and drug screening
- • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 card recommended (preferred, not required)
- • Competency in standard equipment hand signals and basic rigging practices
