Excavator Operator - Jackson, MS

About This Role

Experienced excavator operator needed to dig utilities and perform trenching in the Jackson, MS area. This is a hands-on role for someone who knows their way around an excavator, follows safety rules, and can work on different sites. Pay is $30-$34/hr depending on experience, with per diem provided for travel assignments. Work will be based in and around Jackson, MS but you must be able to travel to other job locations as needed. Expect steady field work, straightforward crews, and a focus on getting the job done safely and on schedule.

What You'll Do

• • Operate excavator for utility trenching, digging, and excavation to project specifications
• • Set up and check excavation lines, slopes, and depths; follow site plans and grade stakes
• • Perform pre-shift equipment inspections and basic daily maintenance
• • Backfill, compact, and restore excavated areas; assist with traffic control and flagging when required
• • Coordinate with crew members, foremen, and inspectors to meet schedule and safety requirements

What We're Looking For

• • Proven experience operating excavators on utility or civil construction projects
• • Strong trenching and excavation skills, including safe work around trenches and shoring
• • Ability to travel to job sites outside Jackson, MS as assignments require
• • Physically able to perform site work in outdoor conditions and follow safety procedures
• • Able to read basic site plans, follow directions, and work reliably on scheduled shifts

Qualifications

• • Minimum 2 years operating excavators on utility or civil jobs (preferred)
• • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to Jackson mobilization point
• • Ability to pass drug screen and background check
• • OSHA 10-hour or equivalent safety training preferred
• • Trench safety/competent person training or related certifications a plus
