Join a busy Abilene crew as a Light Equipment Operator specializing in walk-behind compactors. This per diem role focuses on safe, efficient compactor operation for construction and maintenance projects. You'll be on-site handling compactors, doing basic maintenance, and keeping work moving. We need dependable hands who follow safety rules, inspect gear, and work well with site teams. What You'll Do
- • Operate walk-behind compactors for paving, patching, and general site compaction tasks
- • Perform pre- and post-shift equipment checks and basic maintenance (fuel, belts, vibration systems)
- • Load, unload, and position compactors and related materials safely
- • Inspect work areas and finished work for quality and compaction standards
- • Follow site safety plans, flagging, and instructions from foremen; report defects or safety hazards immediately
What We're Looking For
- • Proven experience operating walk-behind compactors or similar light construction equipment
- • Ability to perform routine heavy-equipment maintenance and trouble-shoot basic issues
- • Comfort handling loading/unloading of equipment and materials on site
- • Strong focus on enforcing and following safety procedures and work inspection standards
- • Able to work on mixed construction crews and take direction from site leads
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
- • OSHA 10 (preferred) or equivalent safety training
- • Prior equipment operator experience; compactor experience required
- • Able to pass drug screen and background check
- • Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, stand and walk for long shifts
- • Basic English communication for safety and crew coordination
