Senior Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

About This Role

Seeking an experienced Senior Industrial Maintenance Mechanic in Ypsilanti, MI to keep production equipment running safely and efficiently. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on compressors, chillers, HVAC, refrigeration, and associated controls, plus fabrications and installations as needed. This is a hands-on role — expect shop and plant floor work, startup/shutdown support, troubleshooting, and leading smaller repair crews. What You'll Do

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and routine service on industrial HVAC, refrigeration, compressors, chillers, pumps and related equipment.
  • Execute corrective maintenance: diagnose faults, replace parts, solder/braze, weld, repair piping, ductwork and sheet metal.
  • Troubleshoot controls, motors and low-voltage systems; install and program controls and metering devices.
  • Install, commission and maintain commercial/industrial refrigeration systems, heat systems, and airside components; perform refrigerant recovery, leak detection and charging.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, parts usage, and time/material records; develop work schedules and inspect completed work.
  • Coach and train junior techs, oversee contractors during projects, and enforce safety and equipment reliability standards.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years’ hands-on experience in industrial/commercial HVAC, refrigeration and mechanical maintenance.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills on controls, compressors, chillers, motors and industrial HVAC control circuits.
  • Skilled in soldering/brazing, piping installation, sheet metal duct fabrication/installation and insulation.
  • Experience with refrigerant handling (leak detection, recovery and charging), compressor installation/maintenance and chiller work.
  • Ability to read HVAC drawings, perform air balancing, basic water testing/treatment and use diagnostic tools.
  • Experience supervising small crews, managing time and material jobs, and developing maintenance schedules.

Qualifications

  • EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification
  • HVAC/R technician certification, journeyman level, or equivalent industrial maintenance credential
  • OSHA 10 (or higher) preferred; welding certification (aluminum) a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background and drug screening
  • Ability to read technical drawings and communicate in English (conversational)
