Journeyman Ironworker
About this role
Join a hands-on crew in Little Rock installing and erecting structural steel on commercial and industrial sites. This journeyman role focuses on layout, fabrication, rigging, welding, bolting and alignment of steel members to blueprint and code standards. Expect heavy field work, travel between local job sites, and a safety-first culture. Work is performed outdoors and at heights using cranes, lifts, scaffolds and ladders. You’ll read drawings, set and secure columns, beams and girders, and inspect finished work for compliance. Hours may include overtime, weekends and irregular schedules based on project needs; all candidates must be able to pass pre-access drug/alcohol testing, a fit-for-duty physical, and background checks.
What you'll do
- • Read and interpret blueprints, specs and site layouts to determine material locations, sizes and quantities.
- • Fabricate and install steel frames, columns, beams and girders; cut, bend, weld and bolt structural members to plan.
- • Rig, signal and assist hoisting operations to move and position heavy steel; assemble and inspect rigging gear.
- • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bobs, lasers, transits and levels; make adjustments with jacks, turnbuckles and hand tools.
- • Inspect work for compliance with plans and codes, report deficiencies and direct corrective actions; maintain clean, safe work areas.
What we're looking for
- • Minimum several years’ structural steel or ironwork field experience as a journeyman.
- • Skilled in rigging, crane signaling, hoisting, bolting and structural welding (SMAW/GMAW or equivalent).
- • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layout drawings and basic shop sketches.
- • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces and in all weather conditions; able to climb ladders, scaffolds and use manlifts.
- • Own common ironworker hand and power tools; able to lift and move materials up to ~50 lbs regularly.
- • Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime and weekends as project demands; must pass drug test, fit-for-duty physical and background check.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED preferred
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
- • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 construction safety card preferred
- • Welding certification (AWS or equivalent) or proven structural welding experience preferred
- • Rigging and crane-signal training or certification preferred
- • Able to pass pre-access drug/alcohol testing, fit-for-duty medical and background check
What we offer
- • Medical, dental and vision insurance available
- • 401(k) retirement plan
- • Paid time off and paid holidays
- • Overtime and extended-hours project opportunities
- • Site-specific safety training, PPE provided and tool allowance or reimbursement where applicable
