Machinist — CNC Router & Laser Operator / CAD-CAM Technician

Dallas, TX

About This Role

Hands-on machinist role operating CNC routers and laser cutters for custom architectural wood panels, signage, templates, and samples. You’ll run machines, prepare and verify CAD/CAM files, inspect first articles, and keep clean, repeatable setups so production runs without scrap or rework. This is a production shop position—expect physical work, straightforward teamwork, and the chance to turn one-off jobs into repeatable production files. We value operators who can troubleshoot files and machines, document setups, and keep jobs moving on time.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and operate CNC routers and laser cutters: load materials, fixtures, spoilboards, tooling, clamps, origins, and machine parameters.
  • Prepare, clean, and verify CAD/CAM files and toolpaths (nesting, layers, cut order); generate and check G-code or machine-specific output.
  • Run and inspect first articles: verify dimensions, edge/engraving quality, and tolerances; stop and troubleshoot issues before full production.
  • Maintain organized digital job folders, setup notes, toolpath records, and repeatable work instructions for consistent runs.
  • Perform routine cleaning, basic maintenance, bit/lens changes, calibration checks, and follow PPE, dust, and laser safety procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous hands-on CNC router operation in woodworking, millwork, signage, or fabrication (production environment preferred).
  • Experience with laser cutting/engraving equipment and understanding of laser power, speed, kerf, and focal height.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM workflows and toolpath creation; strong familiarity with nesting, layers, origins, feeds and speeds.
  • Ability to read shop drawings, cut sheets, and use measuring tools (calipers, squares, tape) for first-article inspection.
  • Troubleshooting skills for bad vectors, open geometry, wrong cut depth, lost origin, tooling wear, burning/tear-out, and hold-down issues; strong digital file-management discipline.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years operating CNC routers in a production wood or signage shop; laser experience required.
  • Proficiency with Vectric Aspire preferred; experience with VCarve, Fusion 360, Rhino, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, LightBurn or RDWorks is a plus.
  • Comfort reading technical drawings and making basic G-code or machine-code edits.
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs, stand and walk on the shop floor for long periods, and work in a dusty/noisy production environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Familiarity with 5S/standard work, and willingness to follow shop safety procedures (OSHA training a plus).

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay plus overtime available.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) plan with company contribution.
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates willing to move to Dallas, TX.
  • On-the-job training and support for CAD/CAM software and certifications.
