Shop Pipe Fabricator

Walker, LA $30-$34/hr

About This Role

Project-based shop pipe fabricator role in Walker, LA. You will lay out, fit, align and assemble pipe and metal components in the shop in preparation for welding. This is hands-on work—plan the sequence of operations, set up jigs and fixtures, prep parts with grinders and torches, and verify fit per drawings and shop standards. We need a proven pipefitter with at least 5 years of field experience, strong blueprint/isometric reading, and the ability to work independently to Tier 1 shop fabrication standards. Familiarity with fast-paced pipe fabrication (vs. module assembly), multiple alloys, rolling offsets/mitered piping, aerial work, and plasma/oxygen-acetylene cutting is required.

What You'll Do

  • Lay out, position, align and fit fabricated metal parts and pipe assemblies per blueprints, isometrics and spool drawings
  • Plan sequence of operations accounting for geometry, heat effects, weld shrinkage and machining needs
  • Set up and use face blocks, jigs, fixtures, hoists and cranes to move and hold components
  • Prep parts for welding using grinders, cutting torches (O/A), plasma cutters and hand tools; bevel and straighten components
  • Roll offsets and fabricate mitered piping; calculate and verify degrees, offsets and cut angles
  • Follow all shop safety rules, wear required PPE, and maintain a clean, organized work area

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years documented field pipefitting/pipe fabrication experience with Tier 1 shop exposure
  • Strong blueprint, isometric and spool drawing reading skills; able to pass spool reading assessment
  • Able to pass written pipe fabrication test and demonstrate shop math competency
  • Experience with oxygen/acetylene and plasma cutting, grinders, beveling and prep work
  • Knowledge of rolling offsets, miter calculations, and working with multiple alloys (not just carbon steel)
  • Able to work at heights and operate aerial work platforms; competent with hoists/cranes and rigging

Qualifications

  • Must pass written Pipe Fabrication test and spool reading assessment
  • 5+ years documented pipefitting/pipe fabrication experience
  • Experience with SMAW and general welding prep (ability to fit for welders)
  • Comfortable using oxygen/acetylene, plasma cutting, grinders and hand tools
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, perform shop math and isometric/spool work
  • Languages: English required; Spanish a plus

What We Offer

  • Pay $30.00–$34.00 per hour
  • Project-based schedule with steady shop assignments
  • Overtime available on most projects
  • PPE and shop-safety program provided
  • Opportunities for cross-training on different alloys and fabrication processes
  • Tool allowance or reimbursement for approved specialty tools
