About This Role
Join a heavy civil crew in Wilmington, DE installing sanitary sewers, storm drains and water mains. This is hands-on work: trenching, setting pipe to grade, working with ductile iron flanges and stainless steel press-fit, and using pipe lasers and grinders. This job is physically demanding and safety-first — you’ll work in trenches (trench boxes), direct equipment with hand signals, cut and fit pipe, and guide crew laborers. Steady work, on-the-job training, and opportunities to move up for reliable performers.
What You'll Do
- • Lay sanitary, storm and water main piping (RCP, ADS, flanged ductile iron, stainless steel press-fit) to layout and grade.
- • Assist with excavation, trenching, backfill and safe use of trench boxes; perform trench stabilization and bedding as directed.
- • Set up and operate pipe lasers, levels and transit equipment to verify line and grade.
- • Cut and prepare pipe using grinders and saws; fit, align and connect pipe and fittings.
- • Communicate with equipment operators using standard hand signals; direct and train laborers on proper tools, cuts and alignment.
- • Lift, handle and secure materials and tools; keep tools and work areas clean and follow site safety protocols.
What We're Looking For
- • 3–5 years construction or pipelaying experience on heavy civil projects.
- • Ability to perform heavy physical labor, work in trenches and at heights with fall protection.
- • Hands-on experience with pipe lasers, RCP, ADS, ductile iron flanged connections and stainless steel press-fit systems.
- • Proficient with pipe cutting tools (grinders, saws) and reading basic site layout/instructions.
- • Valid driver’s license required; reliable transportation to job site.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED or equivalent construction experience.
- • 3–5 years of pipelaying or heavy civil construction experience.
- • Valid driver’s license; clean driving record preferred.
- • Trade school or apprenticeship in pipefitting/civil trades a plus.
- • OSHA 10 or trench-safety/competent person training preferred; ability to follow hand signals and basic English instructions.
