About This Role
Hard-working pipelayers wanted in Allentown, PA to install sanitary and storm sewer lines and water mains on heavy-civil projects. This is hands-on field work: trenching, laying pipe, cutting and fitting, and working with heavy materials and equipment. You’ll work with flanged ductile iron, stainless steel press-fit, RCP and ADS pipe, set and use pipe lasers, and help direct crew laborers and equipment operators while following strict safety procedures. This role is physically demanding and offers steady field work with on-the-job training and opportunities to move up.
What You'll Do
- • Lay sanitary, storm, and water main piping—install flanged ductile iron and stainless steel press-fit systems to grade.
- • Assist with excavation, trenching, backfilling and proper use of trench boxes and dewatering systems.
- • Set up and operate pipe lasers; install RCP, ADS storm pipe, sanitary pipe, and water pipe to layout and grade.
- • Cut and prepare pipe using grinders and other tools; fit, align and secure joints; perform basic pipe testing as required.
- • Communicate and coordinate with equipment operators using hand signals and spotters; direct and train crew laborers on proper techniques.
- • Maintain tools and work area, follow site safety plans, wear required PPE, and work in fall protection when needed.
What We're Looking For
- • 3+ years of pipelaying or heavy civil construction experience working on sewer and water projects.
- • Ability to perform heavy physical labor: lifting, climbing in/out of trenches, and working in confined spaces and variable weather.
- • Experience with flanged ductile iron, stainless steel press-fit, RCP and ADS pipe systems and pipe laser use.
- • Comfortable with trench safety practices (trench boxes), layout reading, measuring and cutting pipe to grade.
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- • Clear communication skills for directing operators and training crew members; basic blueprint/layout reading.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent construction experience)
- • Valid driver’s license
- • OSHA 10-hour construction card preferred (OSHA 30 a plus)
- • Trench safety / Competent Person training and confined space entry training preferred
- • Flagger certification and first aid/CPR preferred
- • Able to pass drug test and background check
