QA / QC Manager
About This Role
We’re hiring a hands-on QA/QC Manager to run asphalt field quality control on projects in and around Fairfax, VA. You’ll run daily field tests, interpret results, and work directly with roller operators, field managers and agency reps to make sure paving meets contract and regulatory specs. This is field work — reading and performing lab-style tests on site, coordinating with DOT and consulting firms, and acting quickly to relay test results so crews can adjust. You must have (or be able to get quickly) required VDOT and nuclear safety certifications and be comfortable following scientific test protocols in a construction environment.
What You'll Do
- • Run daily asphalt QC tests on active projects and record results per contract and regulatory specs
- • Develop, follow and update asphalt field quality control procedures for paving operations
- • Coordinate QC activities and test documentation with federal, state and local agency representatives
- • Perform field tests including core sampling and nuclear gauge density testing; relay results to field managers and roller operators
- • Receive and review DOT and consultant lab reports to confirm conformance with project specifications
- • Support field teams with inspection, test plan enforcement and corrective actions; perform other related duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- • VDOT Asphalt Field Level 1 & 2 certifications required
- • Nuclear Radiation Safety Certificate required or able to complete and pass within 1 week of hire
- • 1–2 years’ asphalt field QC experience required; 3–5 years preferred
- • Strong knowledge of lab test protocols, inspection and test plan (ITP) enforcement, and asphalt QC procedures
- • Good math and analytical skills; familiarity with NEPA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act and other environmental regs relevant to paving
Qualifications
- • VDOT Asphalt Field Level 1 & 2 certifications
- • MARTCP Asphalt Field Certified
- • Nuclear Radiation Safety Certificate (or ability to complete within 1 week of hire)
- • 1–2 years minimum asphalt field QC experience (3–5 years preferred)
- • English — required for written and verbal safety communication
