About this role

We are hiring a field-based QA/QC Manager in Fairfax, VA to run daily asphalt quality control tests and make sure projects meet contract specs and federal, state, and local regulations. • Perform field test procedures including core sampling and Nuclear Gauge testing; record data and deliver results promptly to the project team and field managers.
  • Develop, follow and update asphalt field QC procedures and inspection/test plans to ensure consistent testing and documentation across projects.
  • Coordinate QC activities and testing schedules with roller operators, paving crews, field managers, and representatives from DOT and other agencies.
  • Receive, review and reconcile lab and DOT/consultant reports; identify nonconforming test results and work with the team to correct issues quickly.
  • Maintain accurate test logs, QC paperwork, and project records; perform other job-related duties as assigned on-site.

What we're looking for

  • Asphalt Field Level 1 & Level 2 VDOT certifications required.
  • Nuclear Radiation Safety Certificate required — or ability to complete and pass the required course within one week of hire (online option).
  • Minimum 1–2 years asphalt QA/QC field experience; 3–5 years preferred. Familiarity with asphalt production, placement and compaction practices.
  • Hands-on experience with core testing, Nuclear Gauge operation, and standard lab/field scientific protocols.
  • Strong math and analytical skills; able to read and apply specs, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and interpret DOT/consultant reports.
  • Working knowledge of environmental and construction regulations (NEPA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act), local/state/federal compliance, and building codes.

Qualifications

  • Asphalt Field Level 1 & Level 2 VDOT Certifications (required)
  • Nuclear Radiation Safety Certificate (or ability to complete within 1 week)
  • MARTCP Asphalt Field Certification
  • Minimum 1–2 years field QA/QC experience; 3–5 years preferred
  • Proficient in test documentation, field data entry and basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, reporting)

What we offer

  • Paid time off and scheduled time away from the field.
  • Health benefits (medical, dental, vision) and access to employer-sponsored plans.
  • Training and certification support, including reimbursement for required classes and safety courses.
  • Company-provided safety gear and site equipment; travel reimbursement or vehicle allowance for job site travel.
  • Overtime opportunities and a retirement savings plan (details provided during hiring).
