Construction Quality Engineer
About this role
Join a heavy civil infrastructure team in Raleigh, NC as a Construction Quality Engineer. You will lead quality assurance and control on earthwork, structures, and utility work, supporting the Assistant Quality Manager and project teams to ensure work meets contract specs, codes, and regulatory requirements. This is a field-forward role: expect daily site inspections, documenting audits and NCRs, coordinating with survey for pre-construction QA and as-built QC, and training field crews on project-specific quality procedures. The position requires strong attention to detail, clear communication with field and office teams, and consistent record-keeping.
What you'll do
- • Conduct and document inspections and quality audits for earthwork, structures, and utilities to verify compliance with plans, specs, and codes.
- • Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs): investigate root cause, coordinate corrective actions, and track closure.
- • Maintain and enforce quality checklists, forms, and tracking tools; ensure timely completion by project teams.
- • Coordinate with Survey for pre-construction QA checks and as-built QC verification.
- • Train and coach field personnel on project-specific quality standards, inspection procedures, and expectations.
- • Perform material delivery inspections to confirm conformance with approved submittals and project specifications.
What we're looking for
- • Valid state driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites across the Raleigh area.
- • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geomatics, Materials Science, Geology, or 4+ years’ experience in heavy civil/industrial construction.
- • Working knowledge of underground utility and civil construction standards (AWWA, ASTM, NCDOT specs, ESC/NPDES, NFPA, etc.).
- • OSHA 30 certification (required) and experience with inspection/test plan (ITP) development and enforcement.
Qualifications
- • OSHA 30 (required)
- • Bachelor’s degree in related field or 4+ years heavy civil construction experience
- • Preferred certifications: ACI, NICET, AWS, Paving Inspector (PIC), state DOT inspector certifications, ASNT
- • Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record
- • Proficient with MS Office; experience with construction QA/QC software and digital inspection tools
- • English required; Spanish language skills a plus; able to pass drug screen and background check
