Full Time
Construction Quality Engineer (QA/QC Manager)
About This Role
Join a heavy civil infrastructure team in Raleigh as a Construction Quality Engineer (QA/QC Manager). You’ll lead field inspections and quality audits across earthwork, structures, and utilities to make sure work meets contract specs, codes, and regulatory requirements. You’ll work with the Assistant Quality Manager and project crews to document inspections, manage Non-Conformance Reports, verify materials and as-builts with Survey, and train field staff on project-specific quality procedures. This is a hands-on role—expect time in the field, clear documentation, and direct problem-solving to keep projects moving right the first time.
What You'll Do
- • Lead and document field inspections and quality audits for earthwork, structures, utilities, and material deliveries to confirm compliance with contract drawings and specs.
- • Create, maintain, and track quality checklists, forms, and inspection records; keep tracking tools up to date for project teams.
- • Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs): investigate root cause, coordinate corrective actions with crews/subcontractors, and verify closures.
- • Coordinate with Survey for pre-construction QA checks and as-built QC verification; verify elevations and locations against plans.
- • Train and coach field personnel on project-specific quality standards, inspection procedures, and expectations; support crews during critical operations.
What We're Looking For
- • Valid state driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites.
- • OSHA 30 required.
- • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical drawings.
- • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geomatics, Materials Science, or geology OR minimum 4 years’ experience in heavy civil or industrial construction QA/QC.
- • Working knowledge of underground utility and civil standards (AWWA, ASTM, NCDOT specs, ESC/NPDES) and construction inspection/testing procedures.
- • Proven experience writing and closing NCRs, performing root cause analysis, and enforcing inspection/test plans (ITPs).
Qualifications
- • OSHA 30 (required)
- • Paving Inspector (PIC), ACI, NICET, ICC, AWS, or ASNT certifications (preferred)
- • Familiarity with NCDOT standards, AWWA, ASTM, and NPDES/ESC requirements
- • Ability to use construction management software and inspection tracking tools
- • Strong report-writing and documentation skills
- • English (required); additional language skills a plus
