Rodbuster
About this role
Join a highway and bridge rebar crew in Tampa, FL as a rodbuster, tying and placing reinforcing steel on bridge footings, columns, decks, and barriers across Florida. You will work outdoors on heavy civil projects, following drawings and foreman direction to keep jobs on schedule while maintaining safety and quality. This role is hands-on and fast-paced. Expect manual lifting, marking, and tying of rebar, plus travel between job sites and occasional overtime. Strong field rebar experience, reliable transportation, and a willingness to learn and grow through on-the-job training are required.
What you'll do
- • Tie and place reinforcing bar for bridge footings, columns, pier caps, decks, approach slabs, and barrier walls
- • Carry, position, cut/mark, and align heavy rebar (10–60 ft lengths) and place bundles as instructed
- • Secure intersections and splices using tie wire and pliers; tie horizontal and vertical bars to plan specifications
- • Use paint/keel to mark rebar for cutting, placement, and sequence; follow layout and design drawings
- • Follow site safety rules, report unsafe conditions, and work with the crew to keep the job on schedule
What we're looking for
- • Minimum 6 months documented field rebar (rodbusting) experience required — ironwork alone is not enough
- • Able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs consistently and work at heights
- • Reliable transportation to and from job sites and ability to travel across Florida
- • Own basic rodbusting tools; able to read and follow written and oral instructions
- • Willingness to work overtime, nights or weekends as needed
Qualifications
- • Legally authorized to work in the United States
- • NCCER or similar craft certification preferred (ability to pass NCCER assessment for higher pay)
- • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation
- • Basic English proficiency to understand safety directions and job instructions
- • Access to basic rodbusting tools
- • Minimum 6 months documented field rebar experience
What we offer
- • $22.00–$31.50 per hour (higher rates require passing the NCCER assessment)
- • Health benefits available after 90 days
- • 401(k) plan after one year
- • Paid training and support to develop your rebar skills and certifications
- • Overtime pay and steady work on long-duration bridge/highway projects
