Site Safety Supervisor

About this role

Work as the on-site safety lead for heavy civil construction projects in Roanoke, VA. You’ll own day-to-day safety in the field—doing site walks, enforcing OSHA standards, running toolbox talks and trainings, and investigating incidents to keep crews safe and work moving. This is a hands-on role that works with the Safety Director, project staff and client reps. Expect to write clear reports, develop site-specific plans and JHAs, coach craft workers, and be on-site during key operations. Occasional nights or weekends may be required based on project needs.

What you'll do

  • Conduct regular site walks and field inspections to identify hazards and corrective actions.
  • Enforce OSHA 1926 and applicable federal/state safety regulations; advise project staff and client reps on non-compliance.
  • Lead daily safety meetings, new-hire orientations, toolbox talks and site-specific training sessions.
  • Prepare and maintain site-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-task planning documents.
  • Report incidents promptly and lead or assist incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with project management, the Safety Director and clients to resolve safety issues and implement corrective actions.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 5 years construction safety experience, with heavy civil project experience preferred.
  • Practical experience with confined space, trenching & excavation safety and fall protection.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1926, federal/state safety regs and applicable ANSI/NFPA/NEC standards.
  • OSHA 510 certification required; OSHA 500/502 preferred. Competency as a trainer for fall protection and excavation/trenching.
  • First Aid/CPR certification and a valid driver’s license; able to write clear reports and safety documentation.
  • Willingness to work occasional nights or weekends and to be present on active job sites.
