Asphalt Paving Superintendent

About This Role

Asphalt Paving Superintendent needed in the Fairfax, VA area to lead heavy civil paving projects from start to finish. You will supervise paving crews, manage day-to-day operations, enforce safety and quality standards, and coordinate with project managers to keep jobs on schedule and on budget. This is a hands-on leadership role — you’ll be in the field directing crews, setting up layouts, monitoring QA/QC, managing equipment and materials, and producing clear reports for project stakeholders. Heavy civil construction and asphalt paving experience required.

What You'll Do

  • Supervise asphalt paving crews and subcontractors on-site; assign tasks and monitor productivity
  • Set up site layout, grades, and traffic control; verify plans and specifications before work begins
  • Enforce safety procedures and ensure crew compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Manage daily paving operations: material placement, compaction, joint treatment, and cleanup
  • Coordinate scheduling, materials, equipment, and manpower with project managers and suppliers
  • Perform QA/QC checks, document test results, maintain project records, and prepare job reports

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5+ years heavy civil asphalt paving experience with crew supervision
  • Proven knowledge of asphalt mix placement, compaction, joints, and common QA/QC tests
  • Strong oral and written communication — able to coordinate with PMs, inspectors, and crews
  • Experience scheduling crews, tracking materials/equipment, and managing time & materials
  • Ability to read plans, set grades, and work with survey/layout crews
  • Hands-on equipment familiarity (pavers, rollers, milling machines) and basic maintenance skills

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license; CDL A preferred
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Paving Quality Control Technician or HMA QC/QA certifications preferred
  • First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain
  • Able to pass background check and drug screening
  • Strong English communication skills; Spanish a plus
