Superintendent
About This Role
Seeking an experienced Superintendent in the Richmond/Stafford, VA area to run heavy civil and earthwork jobs. You’ll be on-site directing crews and subcontractors on utilities, grading, excavation and other earthwork tasks to hit milestones on time and on budget. This is a hands-on role: set daily priorities, coordinate equipment and materials, enforce safety and quality, and keep accurate project documentation. Ideal candidate has proven heavy civil experience, strong leadership, and practical skills with project software and plans.
What You'll Do
- • Direct daily site operations for heavy civil and earthwork projects (utilities, grading, excavation).
- • Supervise crews and subcontractors; assign tasks, monitor productivity, and resolve on-site issues.
- • Develop and maintain short-term schedules; coordinate equipment, haul, and material deliveries.
- • Enforce safety protocols and quality control; conduct toolbox talks and site inspections.
- • Read and verify technical drawings, set stakes with survey crew, and ensure work meets specs.
- • Maintain project documentation: daily reports, change logs, time and material records, and progress photos.
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 5 years supervising heavy civil / earthwork projects (utilities, grading, excavation) — proven field leadership.
- • Strong communication skills (verbal and written); able to give clear direction and coordinate crews, subs, and inspectors.
- • Hands-on experience with scheduling, time & material management, and basic budget tracking.
- • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and survey stakes.
- • Proficient with MS Office, Bluebeam and Procore; comfortable using Teams, Zoom and cloud drives for documentation.
- • Commitment to enforcing safety procedures and quality standards on-site.
Qualifications
- • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety (preferred)
- • First Aid/CPR certification (preferred)
- • NCCER or equivalent craft/foreman certification (preferred)
- • Valid driver's license and clean driving record; CDL Class A preferred but not required
- • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
- • Fluent in English (verbal and written) — bilingual a plus
