Asphalt Superintendent

About This Role

Experienced asphalt superintendent needed in Fairfax, VA to run day-to-day paving operations on commercial and municipal jobs. You’ll lead crews, manage equipment and materials, and make sure every pave meets specs, schedule, and safety requirements. Pay: $95,000–$115,000/yr (DOE) with overtime opportunities. This is a hands-on role — you’ll be on site directing crews, coordinating subcontractors and suppliers, inspecting quality (compaction, grade, joints), and keeping project documentation current. Strong communication and proven asphalt experience are required to keep projects moving and profitable.

What You'll Do

• • Supervise asphalt paving crews on site: direct foremen, operators, and flaggers daily
• • Coordinate daily schedules, equipment assignment, deliveries, and laydown plans
• • Inspect finished work to ensure compliance with project specs, density, grade, and smoothness
• • Enforce safety protocols and ensure all crews follow OSHA and state requirements
• • Manage subcontractors and vendors; resolve on-site conflicts and production issues
• • Maintain project records: daily reports, material tickets, QC testing, and change logs

What We're Looking For

• • 5+ years supervising asphalt paving or heavy civil paving operations
• • Proven leadership managing crews, equipment, and onsite subcontractors
• • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specs, and scope documents
• • Strong written and verbal communication across crews, engineers, and owners
• • Familiarity with QA/QC for HMA, compaction testing, and project inspection
• • Experience with project cost tracking, billing, and basic budget management

Qualifications

• • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• • OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification (preferred)
• • Flagger certification and/or traffic control experience
• • Experience with construction management software and MS Office
• • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
• • Spanish language skills a plus
