About This Role

Instrument Technician I — Omaha, NE. Perform hands-on field surveying for commercial and civil construction projects using GNSS and robotic total stations. You’ll spend most of your time in the field doing layout, staking, grade checks, topographic data collection and as-built documentation. This role is for someone who works well outdoors, follows plans closely, keeps accurate field records, and communicates clearly with crews and supervisors. You’ll support project quality and schedule by delivering precise survey data and layout for construction teams.

What You'll Do

  • Perform construction layout, staking, grade checks, utility mapping and topographic data collection in the field (~95% field work)
  • Set up, operate and maintain GNSS receivers, robotic total stations, lasers, levels and survey accessories
  • Hold and position rods/targets, transfer grid lines and elevations, and place stakes at designated points
  • Keep clear daily notes, sketches and as-built records to document work and support quality control
  • Complete daily Task Hazard Analysis (THA) logs and identify/communicate jobsite hazards to the crew
  • Support field crews and occasionally assist utility mapping or vertical layout tasks as needed

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years’ experience as a field survey technician or construction layout role on commercial/civil projects
  • Able to operate GNSS and robotic total station equipment; experience with Trimble or similar gear preferred
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varied terrain and weather; able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and an insurable driving record
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to keep accurate notes, sketches and daily logs
  • Self-motivated, able to follow instructions and work independently or with field crews; available for occasional training travel

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum age 18 and authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to/from jobsite
  • 2+ years field survey or construction layout experience
  • Able to pass company background check and drug screen
  • English — able to read plans and communicate clearly in writing and verbally
