Lead Surveyor
About This Role
Lead and coordinate surveying for heavy civil construction projects across Maryland. You’ll run day-to-day layout, manage a small survey crew, keep projects on schedule, and make sure work meets specs and quality standards. This is a hands-on role: expect to work in the field using Terramodel, Trimble Business Center and Trimble GPS equipment, coordinate with project teams, and handle customer and inspector relations. Competitive pay ($22–$24/hr based on experience) plus benefits, annual bonus opportunities and 401(k).
What You'll Do
- • Lead and direct a small survey crew on heavy civil construction sites; assign tasks and monitor progress.
- • Perform construction layout and staking using total stations, GPS/RTK and survey software.
- • Interpret plans and specifications; coordinate daily with project supervisors and operations teams.
- • Use Terramodel, Trimble Business Center and Trimble GPS for data processing and deliverables.
- • Meet with owners/owner reps or inspectors as required to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance.
- • Participate in pre-construction planning, help develop project schedules, and look for ways to add value to the survey function.
What We're Looking For
- • High school diploma or GED required; construction-related coursework desirable.
- • 3–5 years minimum survey experience in a heavy civil construction environment.
- • Hands-on experience with construction layout, Terramodel, Trimble Business Center and Trimble GPS.
- • Proven ability to lead and supervise a small crew and meet schedule obligations.
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites.
- • Clear communicator with solid blueprint/plan reading and customer/inspector relations skills.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED
- • 3–5 years heavy civil survey experience
- • Demonstrated experience with Terramodel, Trimble Business Center and Trimble GPS
- • Valid driver’s license (required); drone pilot license a plus
