Civil Machine Control Modeler

Cary, NC

About This Role

Surveyor — Civil Machine Control Modeler based in Cary, NC. Join a survey CAD team supporting heavy civil projects (pharma, data centers, warehouses) across the Carolinas. You’ll build and manage GPS machine control models and deliver accurate files to crews and equipment in the field. This is a hands-on technical role: working in Trimble Business Center and other CAD tools to create subgrade and finished-grade surfaces, interpret civil plans for grading and underground utilities, process UAS/photogrammetry data, and support as-built CAD drafting and survey computations. Expect regular coordination with survey project managers and field crews, strict version control, and timely model distribution to job sites.

What You'll Do

  • Build, update, and quality-control subgrade and finished-grade surface models in Trimble Business Center for GPS-controlled dozers and excavators.
  • Read and interpret civil construction drawings to create accurate machine control models for grading and underground utilities.
  • Coordinate with survey project managers and field crews to keep models current, accurate, and ready for field use.
  • Maintain organized project file structures, manage model version control, and distribute updated files to data collectors and equipment.
  • Process photogrammetry/UAS data for quantity checks and assist with as-built CAD drafting and survey computations as workload requires.

What We're Looking For

  • Valid state driver’s license and reliable travel to job sites across the Carolinas.
  • 2+ years’ experience in civil construction, surveying, drafting, or machine control modeling preferred.
  • Proven proficiency with Trimble Business Center for machine control model development; experience with Civil 3D, Carlson, or MicroStation.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans, specs, and blueprints for grading and utilities.
  • Practical knowledge of site and utility construction surveying principles and field layout.
  • Strong attention to detail, version control discipline, and ability to deliver files on tight schedules while coordinating with field crews.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certificate in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Trimble Business Center and machine control workflows required.
  • Familiarity with Trimble construction software/hardware (Earthworks, Siteworks, GCS900, SPS900, Access) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson, or MicroStation for drafting and model prep.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to work with survey crews, project managers, and equipment operators.

What We Offer

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance available.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) plan eligibility.
  • Overtime pay and project-based bonuses where applicable.
  • Company-provided access to industry software and training; support for certifications and skill development.
  • Direct field support role with regular hands-on work and opportunity to learn GNSS/machine-control systems.
