Surveyor Journeyman / Party Chief

About This Role

Surveyor Journeyman needed in Abilene, TX for a per diem field role. You will lead small survey crews, set up and operate survey equipment, and ensure accurate data collection for land and property surveys across Texas. This is a hands-on position for experienced Party Chiefs who can read civil and technical drawings, manage field crews, maintain equipment, and communicate clearly with office staff and clients. Expect daily travel between sites and per diem pay for work away from home.

What You'll Do

• • Lead field survey crews as Party Chief: assign tasks, verify work, and ensure safety on site
• • Set up and operate total stations, GPS/RTK units, levels and other survey equipment
• • Perform boundary, topographic, and property surveys; collect and verify field data
• • Interpret civil drawings, plats, legal descriptions and blueprints for site layout
• • Perform QA/QC on field notes and measurements; report discrepancies to project manager
• • Maintain equipment, manage field supplies, and document daily field reports

What We're Looking For

• • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Party Chief on land/property surveys in Texas
• • Proven leadership and crew-management skills in the field
• • Proficient reading and interpretation of technical drawings, civil plans, plats, and legal descriptions
• • Hands-on experience with total stations, GPS/RTK, levels, and standard survey tools
• • Strong verbal and written communication skills and clear documentation habits
• • Willingness to travel daily and work per diem assignments across job sites

Qualifications

• • Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportation
• • High school diploma or GED required; vocational/survey technology training preferred
• • Preferred: Technician certification or experience toward RPLS (Registered Professional Land Surveyor)
• • Ability to pass drug screen and background check
• • Spanish language skills a plus
