Full Time

Lead Surveyor

Nationwide

About This Role

Lead Surveyor needed to supervise survey crews on construction and industrial sites across the country. This is a hands-on role: you’ll perform layout and quality checks to the latest drawings and specs, then lead the crew to complete the work safely, on time and to standard. You’ll plan daily tasks, train and coach crew members, manage tools and materials, and keep accurate production and time records. Expect varied conditions—heights, confined spaces, changing weather—and travel to multiple project sites nationwide.

What You'll Do

  • Perform and oversee field surveying tasks: layout, stakeout, quality checks and as-built verification per project drawings and specs.
  • Supervise and train survey crews: conduct toolbox talks, teach safe work practices, and provide on-the-job training to craft workers.
  • Plan daily work: assign crews, set priorities, coordinate schedules and communicate scope and plans to field teams and supervisors.
  • Manage tools and materials: coordinate with warehouse and purchasing to ensure equipment, supplies and calibration are available.
  • Monitor productivity and reporting: record daily/weekly quantities, review crew timecards and phase coding, and report progress to supervision.
  • Conduct performance reviews and enforce safety and quality standards on site; correct issues and document actions.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3–5 years field surveying experience with progressive crew leadership or lead role preferred.
  • Skilled in reading/interpreting civil drawings, blueprints and construction plans; experienced with total stations, GPS/data collectors and surveying software.
  • Strong knowledge of site layout, construction sequencing, quantity tracking, and basic estimating/job cost awareness.
  • Able to teach and enforce safety: conduct toolbox talks and follow OSHA/site safety rules; OSHA 10 (required) or OSHA 30 (preferred).
  • Able to work in demanding conditions (heights, confined spaces, uneven ground), lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolds, and work irregular hours including overtime and travel.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation for travel between job sites, and ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing and fit-for-duty medical.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school in surveying preferred.
  • Certified Survey Technician (CST) or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
  • OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred. First Aid/CPR preferred.
  • Proven experience with total stations, GNSS/GPS units, data collectors and common survey software.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record; ability to travel nationwide and work extended hours.
  • English required; Spanish or other language skills a plus.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly pay plus overtime (site-dependent) and travel pay/per diem for remote assignments.
  • Health insurance options (medical, dental, vision) and employer-paid basic life insurance.
  • 401(k) or retirement plan with employer match (where offered) and paid time off/sick leave.
  • Tool allowance or reimbursement and company support for required survey equipment where applicable.
  • Paid safety training and opportunities for certification support (OSHA, First Aid/CPR, survey tech programs).
  • Clear career path to Superintendent/Survey Manager roles with ongoing on-the-job training and leadership opportunities.
