Surveyor — Trimble/Topcon, Traveling Solar Projects
About This Role
Join a traveling field crew as a Surveyor on utility-scale solar farm projects across the country. You’ll spend most days on site operating Trimble or Topcon survey systems, laying out PV array components, collecting topo and control data, and working directly with installation crews to keep projects moving. This role is for hands-on surveyors with at least 2+ years of field experience who are comfortable with frequent travel and rough site conditions. Renewable energy or solar experience is a strong plus. You’ll need to be dependable, safety-minded, and able to deliver clean field notes and accurate layouts under schedule pressure.
What You'll Do
- • Set up and operate Trimble or Topcon GPS/RTK and total station systems for control, topo, staking, and layout on solar farm sites
- • Perform site layout for PV arrays, racking, inverters, access roads, and civil features per civil and electrical drawings
- • Collect and reduce field survey data, produce accurate field notes, point files, and basic topo deliverables
- • Verify grades, benchmarks, and as-built conditions; identify and report potential layout conflicts to field leads
- • Coordinate daily with construction crews and project managers, maintain site safety practices, and keep equipment calibrated and maintained
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on field surveying experience using Trimble or Topcon systems
- • Experience performing surveying and layout on solar, utility, or civil construction projects preferred
- • Comfortable with frequent travel to remote or rural project sites and working outdoors in all weather
- • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, site plans, and construction/technical blueprints
- • Valid driver’s license, reliable personal transportation to travel to out-of-town sites, and ability to lift equipment
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- • 2+ years documented field surveying experience (Trimble or Topcon required)
- • OSHA 10-hour construction safety card (preferred)
- • Survey Technician certificate, LSIT, or equivalent credential (preferred)
- • Proficiency with data collectors, GPS/RTK, total stations, and basic CAD/point file workflows
- • English fluency for clear communication on site; ability to pass background check and drug screen
What We Offer
- • Travel pay or mileage reimbursement for project travel plus per diem for overnight stays
- • Overtime pay and regular work hours when on site; predictable travel schedules when possible
- • Basic PPE and field tools provided (boots, hard hat, high-vis, survey equipment maintenance)
- • On-the-job training for Trimble/Topcon workflows and opportunities for advancement into lead/party chief roles
- • Health and retirement benefits available (where applicable) and paid time off policies
