Surveyor — VDC Layout Operator

About this role

Traveling field role on the VDC team setting up and operating Trimble Robotic Total Stations and GNSS receivers for precise construction layout. You’ll travel to active construction sites, work directly with field crews, and turn model/drawing point files into accurate field layout for mechanical and plumbing systems. This job is hands-on: collect and verify control points, import and manage point files from drawings/models, and lay out pipe runs, hangers, and floor penetrations. The right candidate is tech-savvy, dependable on the road, and comfortable communicating clearly with project managers and field teams.

What you'll do

• • Set up and operate Trimble Robotic Total Stations and GNSS receivers on active construction sites.
• • Collect, verify, and maintain control points to ensure layout accuracy.
• • Import, manage, and maintain point file data from drawings and BIM models; transfer data to instruments.
• • Perform layout of pipe systems, hangers, floor penetrations, and other MEP points per drawings/models.
• • Coordinate daily with the Field Technology Manager, project managers, and field crews; document layout and field changes.
• • Travel to multiple job sites as required and perform field QA checks.

What we're looking for

• • 2+ years construction layout or surveying experience, preferably with mechanical/plumbing systems.
• • Proven experience operating Trimble Robotic Total Stations and GNSS receivers and field data collectors.
• • Able to read and interpret civil, technical, and BIM/model drawings; proficient with point file workflows.
• • Strong verbal and written communication; able to work directly with superintendents and project managers.
• • Valid driver’s license, reliable travel availability, and ability to work on job sites for extended periods.
• • Comfortable using field tablets/software (e.g., Trimble Access), performing basic instrument maintenance, and following site safety rules.

Qualifications

• • Hands-on experience with Trimble Robotic Total Stations and GNSS receivers.
• • Surveying technology certificate, associate degree, or equivalent field experience preferred.
• • OSHA 10 (or higher) preferred; site-specific safety training provided.
• • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to pass background check and drug screen.
• • Strong English communications skills (verbal and written).
