About This Role

Join a heavy civil crew as a Welder in Hampton, VA. You’ll perform certified fillet and groove welds on structural steel, pipe, and machinery in both advanced shop environments and active job sites. Your work supports safe, reliable infrastructure and keeps equipment running. This is hands-on, practical work: fabricate and repair parts, install components, operate shop and field equipment, assist other trades, and respond to emergency repairs when needed. We need dependable welders who put quality and safety first.

What You'll Do

  • Perform certified fillet and groove welds on steel, pipe, and miscellaneous metals to meet welding procedures and quality standards.
  • Determine repair procedures, fabricate or procure parts, and install components to complete repairs or assemblies.
  • Operate and maintain welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and basic shop machinery; transport tools and supplies to jobsites.
  • Read and follow technical drawings, weld symbols, and work orders; coordinate with foremen and other trades on site.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and follow PPE, lockout/tagout, and other safety protocols.
  • Respond to emergency repairs and downtime calls as assigned to restore equipment or structures quickly and safely.

What We're Looking For

  • Metal fabrication experience required; proven track record of quality welds in shop and field.
  • Welding certifications from an accredited program required; AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 preferred.
  • Ability to perform SMAW, oxy-acetylene cutting/welding and common welding processes for structural and pipe work.
  • Must be able to operate required machinery and basic equipment, and assist other trades when needed.
  • Valid driver’s license required and ability to transport tools/equipment to jobsites.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check; able to respond to emergency work when needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school or technical training preferred.
  • Welding certification from an accredited school or program (AWS or equivalent).
  • AWS D1.1 and/or AWS D1.5 welding certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with SMAW and oxy-acetylene processes; experience with structural steel and pipe welding.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check; OSHA and site safety training a plus.
