Miscellaneous Metals Shop Foreman
About this role
Looking for an experienced shop foreman to run a busy miscellaneous metals/structural steel fabrication shop in Denver, CO. You’ll lead a crew of welders, fitters, fabricators and machine operators, plan daily work, keep production on schedule, and make sure finished assemblies meet drawings and quality standards. This is a hands-on lead role: read and verify shop drawings, assign and inspect work, enforce OSHA and shop safety rules, manage material flow and inventory, and communicate schedule or material issues to project teams. Expect to problem-solve layout and fit-up issues, train crew members, and keep the shop organized and productive.
What you'll do
- • Supervise and mentor welders, fitters, laborers, fabricators and machine operators; assign daily work and maintain attendance and performance accountability.
- • Plan, sequence and monitor fabrication schedules to meet project deadlines; lead daily production meetings and adjust priorities as needed.
- • Read and interpret structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication drawings; verify dimensions, fit-up and assemblies against approved shop drawings.
- • Conduct quality inspections of welds, layout and finished assemblies; identify and correct issues early to reduce rework.
- • Enforce OSHA and company safety rules; perform daily safety observations, ensure proper PPE, and keep the shop clean and organized.
- • Coordinate material orders and inventory, schedule equipment maintenance and repairs, and communicate production status and risks with PMs, detailers and field teams.
What we're looking for
- • Minimum 3 years as a shop foreman, lead fabricator, or supervisor in a structural steel or misc. metals shop.
- • Ability to read and interpret structural/miscellaneous steel fabrication drawings and perform shop layout and fit-up checks.
- • Proven welding knowledge (SMAW, MIG, FCAW); GTAW experience is a plus; strong quality-control focus on welds and assemblies.
- • Hands-on experience with common shop equipment and measuring tools; able to prioritize schedules and adapt to changing project needs.
- • Strong leadership and communication skills; experience training and mentoring shop personnel and working with project managers/field teams.
- • Able to lift up to 50 lbs., work in an industrial fabrication environment, and use basic computer tools (Outlook, Excel, production tracking).
Qualifications
- • 3+ years supervising in a structural or miscellaneous metals fabrication shop
- • Proficient in reading technical drawings and blueprints
- • Welding experience: SMAW/MIG/FCAW required; GTAW preferred
- • OSHA 10 or 30 (preferred) and shop safety training
- • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification preferred
- • Valid driver’s license and clear communication skills (verbal and written)
What we offer
- • Medical, dental and vision plan options
- • Paid time off and paid holidays
- • Retirement plan (401k) enrollment available
- • Training and skills development opportunities for welders and leads
- • Overtime available to meet production needs; steady day-shift production schedule with weekend work as required
- • Tool/boot allowance or equipment support and a focus on a safe work environment
