Welder/Fabricator — TIG & MIG (Lakeland, FL)

Lakeland, FL $21-$29/hr

About this role

Join a busy fabrication shop in Lakeland, FL as a hands-on Welder/Fabricator focused on ornamental and finished visible metalwork. You'll use TIG and MIG daily to build and finish architectural pieces—handrails, railings, specialty pieces, and custom ornamental components for commercial and residential projects. This is a full-time, shop-first role with occasional field installs or site work. Ideal candidates come from architectural metals, custom fabrication, handrail/railing shops, specialty fabrication, or theme/entertainment fabrication and take pride in clean, finished welds and precise fit-up.

What you'll do

  • Perform TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding on stainless steel, aluminum and mild steel for finished/visible work
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop prints and fabrication drawings to layout, mark and fit parts
  • Measure, cut, fit and assemble handrails, railings, ornamental pieces and specialty metalwork to tight tolerances
  • Grind, finish and prepare visible welds for final appearance; apply fit-up checks and quality control on finished pieces
  • Operate shop equipment: saws, press brakes, shears, grinders and fixturing for consistent fabrication
  • Prepare components for field installation and assist with occasional site installs and quality checks on-site

What we're looking for

  • Proven TIG and MIG welding experience (GTAW and GMAW) on production or custom ornamental work
  • Fabrication background with sheet/plate layout, fit-up and assembly experience
  • Comfortable working on stainless steel and aluminum (preferred) and producing finished/visible welds
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and welding symbols
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in finished appearance for architectural metalwork
  • Reliable attendance; able to lift and maneuver materials and work in shop and occasional field conditions

Qualifications

  • GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) practical experience; AWS welding certification a plus
  • Proven portfolio or examples of finished/ornamental metalwork (photos welcome)
  • Strong blueprint and technical drawing interpretation skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites for installs when required
  • Willingness to complete background check and pre-employment drug screen if requested

What we offer

  • Full-time position with regular schedule and opportunities for overtime
  • Health insurance options and paid time off (employer-provided plans)
  • On-the-job training and skills development for specialty fabrication techniques
  • Tool/equipment allowance or reimbursement policy
  • Opportunities for steady work on architectural and custom projects with career growth
