Commercial Carpenter

Columbia, TN $24-$29/hr

About this role

Join a commercial project crew building rough wooden structures and concrete formwork in Columbia, TN. This hands-on role focuses on vertical/horizontal forms, gang forms, blocking, scaffolds and other temporary structures. Work is often outdoors and at elevated heights on active job sites. You’ll follow sketches, blueprints or oral instructions, work to strict safety rules, and provide your own basic carpentry tools. Full-time, project-based schedule with possible early starts and occasional overtime. 3+ years commercial carpentry experience, especially with concrete formwork, is preferred.

What you'll do

  • Build and install vertical and horizontal concrete forms, gang forms, blocking, Johnny clamp forms, and temporary structures from sketches, blueprints or oral instructions
  • Measure, cut and fit lumber and form components; set, brace and secure forms and hardware for concrete pours
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolds, tunnel/bridge supports and other temporary access systems following safety procedures
  • Assist during concrete placement and stripping of forms; coordinate with crews to ensure timely pours and clean-up
  • Maintain tools and equipment, keep work areas tidy, and communicate progress and material needs with the foreman

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years commercial carpentry experience preferred, with concrete/gang formwork experience strongly preferred
  • Able to work at elevated heights and in outdoor weather conditions; frequently lift up to 50 lbs
  • Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, perform site layout, and measure/cut accurately
  • Knowledge of scaffolding systems, form hardware, and basic concrete placement processes
  • Provide and maintain your own basic carpentry hand tools (hammer, speed square, tape, chalk box, pliers, tool pouch)
  • Must comply with site safety rules and maintain a drug-free work environment

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour preferred
  • First Aid / CPR preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job site
  • Able to pass drug screen and background checks as required
  • Own basic carpentry tool set required; additional formwork or specialty tools a plus
  • Spanish language skills a plus
