About this role
Join a concrete crew in Davidson, NC installing and stripping formwork for footings, slabs, walls, columns, piers, ramps, and steps. This is a per diem role that requires frequent out-of-town travel, outdoor work, and regular tasks at heights. You'll work with wood, metal and plastic forms and support concrete pours on commercial construction jobs. Ideal candidates read blueprints and shop drawings, measure and cut material to tight tolerances, handle and place rebar, set and brace forms, rig scaffolding, and observe pours for alignment and stability. Safety-first attitude, reliable travel availability, and willingness to work 40–55 hours with possible overtime are required.
What you'll do
- Build, assemble and erect wood, metal and plastic concrete forms for footings, slabs, walls, columns, piers, ramps and steps.
- Read blueprints and shop drawings; measure, mark and cut materials to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Place and brace forms, install tie rods/spreaders, insert and support rebar and welded wire fabric per drawings.
- Set up scaffolding and rigging, direct crane or equipment operators with proper hand signals, and assist during concrete placement.
- Observe concrete pours to ensure form alignment and stability, strip forms after cure, and perform cleanup and form maintenance.
- Follow site safety plans, use PPE at all times, report hazards, and support a safe, productive crew environment.
What we're looking for
- Hands-on experience building and installing concrete formwork on commercial projects.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings and layout instructions.
- Proficient with hand and power tools; measure and cut materials to tight tolerances (edge forms to ±1/8" where required).
- Comfortable working outdoors, at heights, and traveling out of town frequently; able to work 40–55 hours and overtime as needed.
- Physically able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly, climb ladders, and work in noisy/seasonal conditions.
- Clear communication skills for coordinating with foremen, crane operators and other trades.
Qualifications
- OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification (preferred).
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
- Powder-actuated tool, aerial lift, or all-terrain material handler certifications (desirable).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (preferred).
- Ability to read, speak and understand English well enough to follow safety rules and drawings.
- Willingness to complete site safety orientation, drug screen and background check as required.
