About this role
Join a finishing crew in Charlotte, NC working on concrete construction and civil/infrastructure projects. You’ll be placing, screeding, finishing, curing, and patching concrete as part of a hands-on crew and helping train junior team members. This role requires reliable travel to job sites, frequent outdoor work, and the ability to follow safety rules and quality standards. Expect 40–60 hour work weeks, use of PPE at all times, and opportunities to run finishing equipment and coach apprentices as you grow in the trade.
What you'll do
- Place concrete using truck chutes, pump hoses, and hand tools; consolidate with vibrators and push/pull to grade.
- Screed and level slabs by hand and with mechanical screeds; operate bull floats, trowel machines, edgers, and jointers.
- Finish slab edges, perform QC patching with cement mortar, apply dry-shake surface hardeners and evaporation retarders.
- Set up and secure curing covers (mats, paper) and manage curing process to meet project specs.
- Operate forklifts and finishing equipment when certified; load/unload tools and maintain equipment and hand tools.
- Coach and train apprentices and junior finisher technicians; follow and enforce site safety procedures.
What we're looking for
- Experience finishing concrete on commercial or civil projects with hands-on use of screeds, floats, and trowels.
- Ability to operate power trowel machinery, bull floats, and other finishing equipment or willingness to train up.
- Comfort working outdoors in changing weather, frequent travel and overnight stays, and 40–60 hour work weeks.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and move up to 90 lbs, stand for long periods, and work on uneven terrain.
- Basic communication and reading skills to follow plans, safety rules, and crew instructions; reliable attendance.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Forklift operator certification (rough-terrain certification preferred)
- OSHA 10-hour construction safety card preferred
- First Aid / CPR certification preferred
- Ability to read and follow safety documents and basic construction drawings
