About this role
Experienced journeyman concrete finisher needed in Huntsville, AL to handle flatwork and structural finishing on commercial and civil projects. You’ll work independently and with small crews to place, finish, and cure concrete to a high standard. Must have at least 5 years’ hands-on finishing experience, be able to read plans, set forms and screeds, operate finishing equipment, and deliver smooth, level, durable surfaces. Work is outdoors and schedule may include early starts and occasional overtime.
What you'll do
- Place, screed, float, and trowel concrete for slabs, sidewalks, curbs, steps, and structural elements
- Set and strip forms, install control and contraction joints, and perform finish repairs
- Operate finishing equipment (power trowels, screeds, edgers, bull floats) and maintain hand tools
- Follow layout plans and benchmarks; read drawings to confirm grades and slopes
- Monitor curing, apply curing compounds and covers, and ensure finished surfaces meet quality standards
- Maintain a safe, clean work area and follow site safety procedures
What we're looking for
- Minimum 5 years concrete finishing experience at the journeyman level
- Proven ability to independently produce smooth, level, durable flatwork and structural finishes
- Skilled with placing, finishing, curing, and basic formwork
- Comfortable using power trowels, bull floats, screeds, edgers, jointers, and hand tools
- Able to read and work from drawings, layouts, and grade references
- Able to work outdoors in variable weather, lift heavy materials, and stand for long periods
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check where required
- OSHA 10-hour card preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- ACI or other concrete finishing certifications a plus but not required
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with foremen and crew leads
