Datacom Technician I
About this role
Join a hands-on field crew in Los Angeles as a Datacom Technician I installing and supporting Division 27/28 low-voltage systems. You’ll work on structured cabling, fiber runs, and special systems (security, CCTV, AV, fire alarm)—building out telecom closets, installing pathways, terminating, splicing, testing and troubleshooting copper and fiber. This is a field-focused role that moves between job sites across the LA area. You’ll work with a supervisor and a small team, follow site safety rules and procedures, and keep clear documentation of cable runs and test results. Ideal for a detail-oriented technician with 1–3 years’ hands-on installation experience who wants steady field work and skills growth.
What you'll do
- • Build out telecommunications closets and install cable support systems (cable tray, j‑hooks, ladder tray).
- • Pull and install Cat6 horizontal and backbone cable, fiber optic cable, and inner duct.
- • Install low-voltage cabling for security, CCTV, AV and fire alarm systems per drawings and site specs.
- • Terminate copper work‑area outlets (RJ45) and optical fiber connectors (LC, SC); perform copper and fiber splicing.
- • Perform cable and fiber testing, troubleshoot faults, and document test results and as‑built cable labeling.
- • Maintain tools and equipment, keep work areas clean, and follow site safety and access procedures.
What we're looking for
- • 1–3 years hands-on experience with low-voltage or electrical installation in construction or maintenance.
- • Able to read and work from drawings, cable schedules and installation instructions.
- • Skilled with hand tools, termination tools, fusion/mechanical splicing tools and test equipment (OTDR, power meter, cable testers).
- • Comfortable working at heights, in telecom rooms, and in variable field conditions; must be physically able to lift and carry cable and equipment.
- • Basic computer skills (MS Office, email, and mobile site documentation tools) and ability to follow instructions from supervisors.
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- • OSHA certification (site safety training) and Confined Space certification preferred or willing to obtain
- • Manufacturer or vendor low-voltage/fiber certifications preferred
- • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
What we offer
- • Medical, dental and vision plan options
- • Paid time off and paid holidays
- • Paid safety and skills training; certification reimbursement for required programs
- • Retirement plan options
- • Overtime opportunities and consistent field schedule
