Estimating Manager
About this role
We are hiring an experienced estimating manager in Raleigh, NC to lead and oversee construction estimating activities for commercial and residential projects. You will own bid preparation, cost analysis, subcontractor sourcing, and the estimating pipeline from takeoff to final proposal. This is a hands-on role for someone who reads drawings, builds accurate estimates, manages a small estimating team, and works directly with project managers and field crews to control budgets, track job costs, and protect profit margins. If you’re organized, detail-oriented, and ready to run estimating processes day-to-day, this role is for you.
What you'll do
- • Lead and manage day-to-day estimating functions and a small estimating team; assign bids and review deliverables
- • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, and complete bid packages for commercial and residential work
- • Review drawings and specifications; coordinate scope clarifications with project management and field teams
- • Solicit, evaluate, and maintain subcontractor and vendor quotes; develop and maintain vendor relationships
- • Produce and maintain job cost reports, profit & loss analyses, and estimating documentation for each bid
- • Maintain the bid pipeline, track deadlines, and ensure timely and compliant bid submissions
What we're looking for
- • 5+ years estimating experience in commercial and/or residential construction
- • Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specs
- • Strong math and analytical skills; experience with cost estimation and job cost reporting
- • Experience coordinating with project management and field crews on scopes and budgets
- • Familiarity with building codes, compliance requirements, and contract/claims basics
- • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel advanced skills preferred) and maintaining project documentation
Qualifications
- • Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- • AACE, CPE, or equivalent estimating certification preferred
- • OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred
- • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables) and familiarity with estimating software
- • Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication for bid documents
