General Labor — Paving Mechanic

About This Role

Join a hands-on crew in Fairfax, VA as a Paving Mechanic. You’ll keep pavers, rollers, milling machines and support equipment running — diagnosing breakdowns, performing preventative maintenance, and making field repairs so crews can stay on schedule. This is physical, outdoor work on local road and paving projects. Expect steady hours, overtime when needed, and work across Northern Virginia job sites. We’re looking for someone dependable with strong mechanical skills and a willingness to get dirty and fix things on the spot.

What You'll Do

• • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical issues on pavers, rollers, and other paving equipment
• • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance: change fluids, filters, belts, greasing, and inspections
• • Fabricate and replace parts, perform basic welding and mechanical adjustments to screeds, conveyors, and augers
• • Operate and maintain service truck, carry parts and tools to job sites, and perform on-site repairs
• • Keep accurate maintenance logs, order parts, and communicate repair status to crew leads
• • Respond to emergency breakdowns and assist paving crew with machine setup and troubleshooting

What We're Looking For

• • 3+ years hands-on experience repairing heavy equipment, diesel engines, or paving machines
• • Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel mechanics, and basic electrical systems
• • Comfort using hand tools, diagnostic meters, and basic welding equipment
• • Able to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and stand/stoop for long periods
• • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites across Northern VA
• • Available for overtime and occasional early starts or extended shifts during paving season

Qualifications

• • CDL Class B preferred but not required
• • ASE Diesel or heavy equipment certifications preferred
• • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training preferred
• • Welding certification (MIG/TIG) a plus
• • English required; Spanish helpful
• • Clean driving record
