Tunnel Laborer / Miner
About This Role
Join a heavy civil tunnel crew in Manchester, NH as a Tunnel Laborer / Miner. This is an hourly, hands-on role supporting excavation, tunnel support installation, TBM maintenance, and general underground operations. Start pay is $29.00/hr+ DOE. Shift work, overtime, weekends, and on-call availability are required. You’ll work primarily underground in physically demanding conditions — moving material, operating hand and power tools, assisting heavy equipment operators, and maintaining a safe work area. Hyperbaric TBM maintenance work is voluntary and requires additional training. Strong teamwork, attention to safety, and a willingness to work varied shifts are essential.
What You'll Do
- • Assist with excavation, drilling and controlled blasting operations to remove earth and rock.
- • Install and maintain tunnel support systems (braces, rock bolts, precast liners) and utility lines.
- • Operate and maintain hand and power tools (jackhammers, drills, saws) and assist heavy equipment operators as needed.
- • Support TBM maintenance tasks, including tool changes and grout/ventilation system work; hyperbaric work is voluntary with training.
- • Load, haul, and remove excavated material; keep the tunnel clean and safe and report hazards immediately.
- • Assist trades (electrical, mechanical, ventilation, waterproofing) and perform site setup, traffic control/flagging, and general cleanup.
What We're Looking For
- • Able to lift and carry 40+ lbs repeatedly, stoop, crawl and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- • Prior construction, tunneling, mining, or underground experience preferred.
- • Comfortable using hand and power tools and assisting with heavy machinery.
- • Willingness to work shifts, nights, weekends, overtime, and be on-call for emergencies.
- • Strong safety mindset, able to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate clearly with crew members.
- • Able to work in noisy, wet, dirty, and variable-temperature underground environments.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED preferred
- • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (preferred)
- • Forklift operator certification
- • Scissor lift certification
- • Hilti certification (or equivalent) preferred
- • Rigger / certified rigger preferred
- • Authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship provided)
- • Willing to complete site safety and hyperbaric training if selected
