Tunnel Laborer / Miner
About this role
Join a tunnel construction crew in Manchester, NH as a Tunnel Laborer / Miner. You’ll assist with excavation, drill/blast support, installing tunnel supports, maintaining utility and ventilation systems, and helping with TBM maintenance. This is hands-on, physical work in an underground environment where safety and teamwork come first. Work is primarily underground in tight, noisy, and wet conditions. Expect shift work with nights, overtime, weekends, and occasional on-call duties. Site-specific training will be provided for tasks such as hyperbaric TBM maintenance (voluntary) and equipment operation.
What you'll do
- • Support excavation: assist with digging, drilling, and blast cleanup; move muck and debris using conveyors, haulage equipment, or manual methods
- • Install and maintain tunnel supports: place braces, rock bolts, precast segments, and temporary shoring to keep the workface stable
- • Maintain utilities and systems: install/repair ventilation, grout systems, and tunnel utility lines; assist with TBM cutting tool changes and routine maintenance
- • Operate hand and power tools safely: use shovels, picks, jackhammers, drills, concrete saws, sinking hammers and assist heavy equipment operators as needed
- • Keep the work area safe and clean: inspect for hazards, follow traffic/flagging procedures, perform site cleanup, and report safety concerns
- • Assist skilled trades: help electricians, pipefitters, and mechanics with installations and access, and perform assigned materials handling tasks
What we're looking for
- • Prior construction, tunneling, mining, or underground experience preferred
- • Strong safety mindset and ability to follow site safety procedures and directions from the foreman
- • Able to lift and carry 40 lbs repeatedly, stoop, bend, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
- • Comfortable working in noisy, wet, dusty, and variable-temperature underground conditions
- • Willingness to work shifts, nights, overtime, weekends, and be on-call for emergencies
- • Good verbal communication and teamwork skills; able to follow written and verbal instructions
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED preferred
- • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred
- • Forklift operator and scissor lift certifications preferred
- • Hilti (tool) certification or equivalent preferred
- • Rigger or certified rigger preferred
- • Authorized to work in the United States; position is not eligible for sponsorship
