Per diem
Heavy Equipment Operator — Scraper (Per Diem)
About this role
We’re hiring a Scraper Operator to run heavy equipment for earthmoving and site preparation across Indiana. This per diem position focuses on civil mass grading and site work — operating scrapers and related equipment to meet grade and production targets while keeping the jobsite safe and efficient. You’ll work on varied construction sites across Indiana, using GPS navigation and reading civil drawings to perform cut/fill, blading, and finish-grade work. Expect travel between projects, hands-on equipment maintenance, and close coordination with foremen and survey crews. Strong safety habits and reliable attendance are essential.
What you'll do
- • Operate scrapper equipment for mass grading, cut/fill, and hauling material across site layouts
- • Follow GPS rover guidance and grade stakes to achieve required tolerances and elevations
- • Perform pre- and post-shift equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and report faults
- • Read and follow civil drawings, grade plans, and site directions from foremen and surveyors
- • Coordinate with dozers, graders, rollers, loaders, and crew to sequence earthmoving work safely and efficiently
- • Travel between job sites in Indiana; follow site-specific safety rules and complete required paperwork and checklists
What we're looking for
- • Proven experience operating scrapers in civil construction and mass grading projects
- • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and grade plans
- • Hands-on experience with GPS navigation / GPS rover systems for grading
- • Competence operating related equipment: dozer, grader, loader, backhoe, skid steer, and roller
- • Experience with excavation/trench work, blading, and finish grading
- • Proven track record of safe operation, machine maintenance, and following site safety protocols
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- • Ability to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
- • OSHA-10 (preferred) or equivalent site safety training
- • Equipment operator certifications or documented heavy-equipment experience
- • Comfortable working in variable weather and travel schedules; basic English communication skills
What we offer
- • Daily per diem for travel assignments
- • Lodging assistance when overnight stays are required
- • PPE and basic tools provided on site
- • Site-specific training for GPS and mass grading systems
- • Opportunities to work on multi-week civil projects across Indiana
