Heavy Equipment Operator
About this role
We are hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator for a commercial/civil earthwork project in La Porte, TX. You’ll operate excavators, GPS dozers, loaders, skid steers, rollers, water/off-road trucks and compactors to support excavation, grading, trenching and material handling. This is a safety-first crew. You must read blueprints, run material calculations, use laser levels, complete daily THA and machine load charts, perform basic equipment inspections and mentor less-experienced operators. Per diem pay and night shifts may be required based on project needs.
What you'll do
- • Operate excavators, dozers (GPS), loaders, skid steers, off-road and water trucks, rollers and compactors for excavation and grading.
- • Perform trenching and excavation tasks using proper systems (sloping, shoring, trench boxes) and follow excavation safety plans.
- • Rough and fine grade with dozer and use laser levels for elevations; read and interpret blueprints and site layouts.
- • Complete daily THA logs, machine load charts, THA/machine records and basic equipment inspections.
- • Perform basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on assigned equipment; coordinate with mechanics as needed.
- • Coordinate work with other trades, safely load/unload materials, and train/mentor less-experienced crew members.
What we're looking for
- • 3–5+ years operating heavy equipment in commercial, civil, or marine earthwork environments.
- • Proven ability to use laser levels, read blueprints and perform basic material and layout calculations.
- • Solid knowledge of excavation safety systems (sloping, shoring, trench boxes) and hazard recognition.
- • Experience with GPS dozer grading, long-reach excavators, rollers and water/off-road truck operation.
- • Able to perform daily equipment inspections, complete machine load charts and maintain accurate logs.
- • Physically able to lift 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and work night shifts when required; reliable transportation to site.
Qualifications
- • Proof of identity and authorization to work in the U.S.
- • Minimum age 18+
- • 3–5+ years heavy equipment operation experience
- • Able to use laser level and read construction plans
- • Reliable transportation to and from the job site (valid driver's license preferred)
- • Able to meet attendance expectations and work independently or as part of a crew
