Heavy Equipment Operator — La Porte, TX

La Porte, TX $30-$48/hr

About This Role

Heavy Equipment Operator needed for a commercial/civil project in La Porte, TX. You’ll run excavators, dozers (GPS), loaders, rollers, water/off-road trucks and compactors to support excavation, grading, and material handling. This is hands-on work — read plans, set grades with laser levels, and keep machines in safe working order. We’re looking for a dependable operator with 3–5+ years of self-perform earthwork experience who can work independently, follow site safety systems (sloping, shoring, trench boxes), complete THA logs and machine load charts, and mentor less-experienced crew members. Pay range is $30–$48/hr plus per diem for La Porte assignments.

What You'll Do

  • Safely operate excavators, dozers (GPS), loaders, skid steers, rollers/compactors, off-road trucks and water trucks on commercial/civil sites
  • Perform trenching and excavation work: sloping, shoring, trench box installation, shallow and deep trenching
  • Rough and fine grading using dozer and laser level; read blueprints and perform basic material calculations
  • Complete daily THA logs, machine load charts, pre-op inspections and basic preventive maintenance
  • Coordinate with foremen and other trades, mentor less experienced operators, and follow traffic control and site safety plans

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5+ years operating heavy equipment on commercial, civil or marine projects
  • Proven ability to use GPS dozer controls, laser level, and read/interpret blueprints
  • Experience with excavation safety systems (sloping, shoring, trench boxes) and soil identification
  • Able to perform physical tasks: lift ~50 lbs, squat/crawl, work in confined spaces, and work night shifts as needed
  • Reliable transportation to/from the jobsite and strong commitment to safety (THA completion, hazard recognition)

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years heavy equipment experience in commercial/civil/marine work
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL (Class A/B) a plus but not required; reliable transportation
  • OSHA 10 (or equivalent) safety card preferred; excavation/shoring training preferred
  • Ability to operate laser level and perform basic material/math calculations; read plans
  • Must be 18+, authorized to work in the U.S., and able to pass drug screen/background check

What We Offer

  • Pay $30–$48/hr plus per diem for travel assignments
  • Paid holidays (7) and paid time off
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage and 401(k) retirement plan
  • Skill development and on-the-job training; referral cash bonuses
  • Stable commercial/civil work with a safety-first jobsite focus
