Heavy Equipment Operator

Gay, GA $22-$28/hr

About this role

Experienced heavy equipment operator needed for earthmoving and site-prep work based in Gay, GA. You will run bulldozers and excavators day-to-day, set up and use GPS machine control, and switch to other machines as jobs require. Work locations are primarily across Georgia with regular projects in the Florida panhandle and Alabama. This is a hands-on role for a safe, reliable operator who can read civil plans, maintain equipment, and travel to regional job sites. Expect full-time field work, straightforward tasks, and a crew-focused environment where practical skill and GPS proficiency matter.

What you'll do

  • Operate bulldozers and excavators safely and efficiently to meet grade and production targets
  • Set up, calibrate and use GPS machine control and related GPS equipment on dozers and excavators
  • Operate other heavy equipment as needed (grader, loader, skid steer, dump truck) to support site work
  • Perform daily pre-start inspections, routine maintenance, and report equipment defects
  • Read grade stakes, plans, and instructions to grade, trench, and shape work per project specs
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area; follow site safety rules and communicate with the crew and foreman

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience running bulldozers and excavators; able to operate multiple types of heavy equipment
  • Proficient with GPS machine control systems and GPS rover equipment
  • Basic heavy equipment maintenance skills and ability to perform pre-shift inspections
  • Comfortable reading civil plans and working to grade and elevation requirements
  • Willingness to travel to projects across Georgia, the Florida panhandle, and Alabama
  • Physically fit for full-time outdoor work and able to work in varied weather conditions

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; CDL preferred but not required
  • Completion of GPS/machine-control training or demonstrable on-the-job experience
  • OSHA 10 (or 30) preferred or willingness to complete site safety training
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent field experience
  • Ability to communicate in English on-site; additional languages a plus
  • Reliable documentation for eligibility to work and ability to pass background and drug screening if required
