Heavy Equipment Operator
About This Role
Join a skilled crew in Shelby, NC as a Heavy Equipment Operator on industrial construction projects. You’ll run excavators, dozers, backhoes, skid steers, motor graders and compactors to move and grade earth, set grades, and support concrete and paving work. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years’ industrial equipment experience, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to perform basic equipment maintenance. This is a hands-on role — you’ll be expected to operate multiple machines, follow plans and grade stakes, and maintain a drug-free, safety-first work approach.
What You'll Do
- • Operate excavators, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, vibratory compactors and motor graders to excavate, move and grade earth.
- • Set and verify grades, read plans and use grade stakes or GPS units to meet project specifications.
- • Support concrete pours and paving operations — backfill, compact, and finish surfaces as required.
- • Perform pre‑start inspections, routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs to keep equipment safe and productive.
- • Follow site safety plans and procedures, report hazards, and complete required safety documentation and daily equipment logs.
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 3 years’ industrial heavy equipment operator experience preferred.
- • Proven ability to operate excavator, backhoe, dozer, skid steer, grader and compactor safely and efficiently.
- • Basic mechanical aptitude for routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- • Ability to read plans, follow grade stakes or GPS guidance, and communicate with crew and foremen.
- • Willingness to work in a drug‑free environment and pass pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license; reliable transportation to job site
- • OSHA 10 (preferred) and other safety training certifications
- • NCCER or manufacturer equipment certifications a plus; certifications may be employer‑required
- • Ability to pass DOT physical or other site physicals as required
- • Proficiency in English for safe communication on site
