Heavy Equipment Operator — Cartersville, GA

About this role

We are hiring a light/heavy equipment operator in Cartersville, GA to run a variety of smaller construction machines on local projects. This role focuses on safe, efficient operation of skid steers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, dozers and paving equipment on short- to mid-term jobs around the Cartersville area. You’ll work outdoors with a crew, follow site directions from the foreman, perform daily equipment inspections, assist with loading and unloading materials, and keep work areas clean and productive. Reliable attendance, strong machine-handling skills, and a focus on safety are required.

What you'll do

• Operate skid steer, loader, backhoe, excavator, dozer and small paving equipment for site prep and finish work
• Load and unload materials, place asphalt/concrete base, spread and grade material as directed
• Perform pre- and post-shift equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance
• Follow site-specific traffic control and signaling; assist with flagging when required
• Keep work areas tidy and assist crew with cleanup, trenching support, and backfill
• Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and progress to the foreman or superintendent

What we're looking for

• Proven experience operating skid steers, loaders, backhoes, excavators and dozers on construction sites
• Skilled at loading/unloading materials and operating paving equipment for base and finish work
• Able to perform basic equipment checks and routine maintenance (fluid checks, greasing)
• Able to read basic site stakes, follow grade directions, and take direction from crew leads
• Reliable transportation to Cartersville job sites and consistent on-time attendance
• Capable of meeting physical demands of the job: lifting, climbing, and working outdoors in varying conditions

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check if required
• Willingness to complete site-specific safety training (e.g., toolbox talks, site orientation)
• OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training preferred but not required
• Basic English communication skills; Spanish language ability is a plus
