Excavator Operator

Baltimore, MD $28-$35/hr

About This Role

Join a heavy civil crew in Baltimore as an Excavator Operator working on mainline pipe and large-scale mass excavation. You’ll run hydraulic excavators (Cat 330/336/349 or similar) to dig trenches, set grades, and move large volumes of earth while following site plans and safety procedures. This is hands-on field work: read plans and grade stakes, use laser levels, perform daily equipment checks and light maintenance, and work closely with foremen and crew members. Pay is $28–$35/hr depending on experience, with medical, dental, vision, PTO, holidays, annual bonus and 401(k).

What You'll Do

  • Operate hydraulic excavators (Cat 330/336/349 or similar) for digging, trenching, grading and bulk earthmoving.
  • Excavate trenches and sites for water, sewer and storm drainage utilities; perform slope work and large-scale grading.
  • Read and follow civil construction plans, grade stakes and laser level set-ups to meet line and grade.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and report mechanical issues promptly.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety standards, use PPE, and keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Coordinate with crew members, operators, and supervisors to sequence work and meet project schedules.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 2 years operating heavy excavators on site development, utility installation or mass excavation (3+ years preferred).
  • Able to read/interprete construction drawings, grade stakes and laser levels; strong line-and-grade skills.
  • Proven ability to operate Cat 330/336/349-class machines or similar safely and productively.
  • Perform daily inspections and basic preventative maintenance on equipment; report issues immediately.
  • Valid driver’s license required; reliable transportation to Baltimore-area job sites.
  • Physically able to climb on/off equipment, work outdoors in all weather, and follow safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license (required).
  • Minimum 2 years heavy-equipment excavator experience (3+ years preferred).
  • Familiarity with Cat 330/336/349 or equivalent machines.
  • OSHA 10-hour construction card preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; able to read construction drawings.
  • English proficiency required for safety and plan reading; Spanish or other language skills a plus.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay: $28–$35 per hour based on experience.
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays.
  • Annual performance bonus program.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Stable, local heavy civil projects with steady hours and crew support.
