Excavator Operator — Mainline Pipe Crew (Laurel, MD)

About this role

Experienced excavator operator needed for Mainline Pipe and mass excavation projects in Laurel, MD. This hands-on role focuses on safe, precise digging for water, sewer and storm drainage mains, as well as bulk earthmoving and grading on large civil jobs. You’ll run large hydraulic excavators (Cat 330/336/349 or similar), read plans and grade stakes, perform daily inspections and routine maintenance, and follow OSHA and site safety rules. Expect steady, site-based work on heavy civil projects in and around the Laurel area.

What you'll do

• • Operate large hydraulic excavators (Cat 330/336/349 or similar) for trenching, grading and mass excavation.
• • Excavate trenches and bedding for water, sewer and storm drainage mainline pipe installations.
• • Read and follow construction plans, grade stakes, laser levels; work with machine control/GPS when available.
• • Perform daily pre-start inspections, routine equipment maintenance, and report mechanical issues.
• • Follow OSHA and site safety procedures, use required PPE, and maintain clean, organized work areas.
• • Coordinate with crew members, foremen and site supervisors to keep work on schedule and safe.

What we're looking for

• • Minimum 3 years operating excavators in heavy civil construction (utility mains, mass excavation, site development).
• • Proven experience with trenching for water, sewer or storm drainage preferred.
• • Ability to read construction plans, grade stakes and work with laser levels; GPS machine control experience a plus.
• • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance; report issues promptly.
• • Valid driver's license required; CDL Class A preferred.
• • Able to work in physically demanding conditions and in various weather; reliable attendance.

Qualifications

• • Valid driver's license (required); CDL Class A (preferred)
• • Minimum 3 years heavy civil excavator operation experience
• • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
• • Experience with Cat 330/336/349 or comparable machines
• • GPS machine-control and laser grade experience (preferred)
• • OSHA 10-hour or equivalent safety training (preferred)
