Heavy Equipment Operator — Pipe/Hoe (Quakertown, PA)
About This Role
Heavy Equipment Operator needed for underground pipe and utility work in Quakertown, PA. You’ll run excavators/hoes on a pipe crew, digging trenches, setting bedding, and supporting pipe installation on local civil construction projects. This is hands-on, outdoor work — come ready to operate equipment safely and work with a small crew. The role focuses on trenching, trench stabilization, dewatering, and assisting with basic pipelaying when required. Local routes, steady work, and clear expectations: reliable attendance, solid machine skills, and the ability to read basic piping and utility drawings. Pay is competitive and based on experience (DOE).
What You'll Do
- • Operate excavators/hoes for trenching, backfill, and pipe installation on underground utility projects
- • Work directly with pipe and underground utility crews to set bedding, place pipe, and prepare trenches
- • Perform trench stabilization and bedding, including dewatering and shoring support as directed
- • Load/unload and relocate equipment on site; inspect and perform basic daily maintenance on machines
- • Follow site safety plans, maintain a clean work area, and report hazards or equipment issues immediately
- • Assist crew with basic pipelaying tasks (alignment, fit-up, and joint support) and traffic control/flagging as needed
What We're Looking For
- • Proven experience operating excavators/hoe for trenching and pipe installation on civil construction sites
- • Knowledge of trench stabilization, bedding, trench dewatering, and general pipelaying practices
- • Ability to read and interpret pipeline E&I drawings and piping/mechanical blueprints at a working level
- • Comfort working with underground utility crews and following crew leader instructions in a fast-paced field environment
- • Strong focus on safety: follows shoring/benching, confined-space awareness, and site safety plans
- • Reliable transportation to Quakertown site(s), ability to work outdoors in variable weather and lift/carry equipment as needed
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to jobsite
- • OSHA 10 (preferred) or equivalent safety training
- • Heavy equipment operator certification or documented experience on excavators/hoes
- • Flagger certification or ability to perform traffic control
- • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
- • Able to communicate in English; basic reading of job tickets and drawings
