Heavy Equipment Operator — Paver Operator

About This Role

Heavy Equipment Operator needed in Chesapeake, VA to run paving equipment on local road and site projects. You’ll operate pavers and supporting machines (loaders, dozers, excavators), maintain gear, and work with a small crew to finish quality pavement and base work. This is hands-on work with defined start times and travel to nearby project sites. Pay is competitive (DOE) with overtime opportunities. We want dependable operators who know paving procedures, read basic plans, follow safety rules, and take pride in clean, level work.

What You'll Do

• • Safely operate pavers and screed systems for asphalt placement and compaction
• • Operate loaders, dozers, and excavators to prepare material, grade, and move asphalt/aggregate
• • Perform pre- and post-shift equipment checks, basic maintenance, and report defects
• • Follow grade strings, stakes, and crew directions to ensure correct elevation and pitch
• • Communicate with foreman and crew on material needs, delays, and site safety

What We're Looking For

• • Proven experience operating paving equipment and heavy machines on road projects
• • Skilled in loader, dozer, and excavator operation with ability to switch between machines
• • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather, lifting, and climbing on equipment
• • Able to read basic plans/layouts, follow grade, and take verbal instructions
• • Reliable transportation to jobsite and willingness to travel to nearby project locations

Qualifications

• • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• • OSHA 10-hour construction card or equivalent preferred
• • Flagger certification and/or DOT experience preferred
• • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
• • English proficiency to follow safety directions; additional language skills a plus
