Heavy Equipment Operator

About this role

Join a heavy civil site development crew in Davidson, NC as a Heavy Equipment Operator. You’ll run dozers, graders, excavators and rollers on grading and drainage work, follow civil plans, and use machine control tech to hit production and quality targets. This role requires hands-on safety focus, daily inspection and preventive maintenance, and clear field communication. You’ll also mentor apprentices and operator techs, report soil and compaction issues to supervision, and be prepared for frequent outdoor and out-of-town work with 40–60 hour weeks.

What you'll do

• • Safely operate dozers, motorgraders, excavators, loaders and rollers on grading and site-development tasks
• • Complete daily pre‑start inspections, keep operator logs, and perform routine preventive maintenance
• • Read civil plans and use GPS/machine-control systems to grade efficiently and ensure proper drainage
• • Assess soil and compaction conditions in the field and communicate issues to project supervision
• • Lead and mentor crew members and operator apprentices to meet quality and production goals
• • Maintain site safety, identify hazards, and follow site-specific safety plans and PPE requirements

What we're looking for

• • Proven heavy-equipment operating experience on grading/site-development projects (dozer, grader, excavator preferred)
• • Comfort using GPS/machine-control systems and basic troubleshooting of those systems
• • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, perform measuring/calculating, and set work layout
• • Strong safety awareness with experience implementing site safety and hazard controls
• • Physical ability for frequent outdoor work, travel assignments, and 40–60 hour work weeks

Qualifications

• • OSHA 10-hour certification (required or must complete upon hire)
• • Valid driver's license preferred
• • First Aid/CPR desirable
• • Ability to pass operator skills test (motorgrader and other assigned equipment)
• • Preferred: craft training Level I (grading), trenching/excavation, aerial lift or material-handler certifications
