Heavy Equipment Operator
About this role
We are hiring an experienced heavy equipment operator for site work projects based out of Gay, GA. This role focuses on earthmoving, grading, and site prep using dozers, excavators, loaders and similar machines. Projects may require travel between sites and per diem is available for eligible assignments. The right candidate has a solid safety record, at least four years operating heavy equipment on civil/site work, can read construction plans, and can set up and run GPS/machine-control systems. You’ll work with a small crew, report to onsite supervisors, and be expected to maintain equipment and keep work moving on schedule.
What you'll do
- • Operate dozers, excavators, loaders, graders and related machines for site preparation, grading, and earthwork
- • Read and work from construction blueprints and site layouts to meet grade and line requirements
- • Set up, calibrate and operate GPS/machine-control equipment for accurate grading and layout
- • Perform routine equipment checks, basic maintenance, and report mechanical issues
- • Communicate clearly with supervisors and crew to coordinate daily tasks and maintain safety
- • Follow site safety plans and maintain a clean, organized work area
What we're looking for
- • Minimum 4 years hands-on experience operating dozers, excavators, loaders and similar equipment on site work projects
- • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings and grade/stake plans
- • Experience setting up and running GPS rover or machine-control systems
- • Basic heavy-equipment maintenance skills and ability to spot mechanical problems
- • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a crew on active job sites
- • Willingness to travel to nearby sites and work extended shifts when required
Qualifications
- • Minimum 4 years operating heavy equipment on civil or site work projects
- • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- • Experience with GPS machine control / GPS rover systems
- • OSHA 10 (or equivalent) preferred
- • CDL (Class A/B) preferred or ability to obtain if assigned dump truck duties
- • English proficiency sufficient for reading plans and clear crew communication
