About this role
Join a nationwide crew moving earth, grading sites and supporting civil construction projects. You’ll run common site machines — dozers, excavators, loaders, graders and skid steers — on highway, commercial and site-prep jobs. Assignments include excavation, grading, backfill and material handling. Work is project-based across the U.S.; assignments may be local or require travel and multi-week stays. You’ll follow site layouts and grade plans, perform pre-start checks and basic maintenance, and work closely with foremen and labor crews to keep projects on schedule and safe.
What you'll do
- Operate dozers, excavators, loaders, motor graders, skid steers and backhoes for excavation, grading, trenching and material handling
- Perform pre-start inspections, daily maintenance, fueling and minor troubleshooting to keep equipment running
- Set and follow site layout, grade stakes, stringlines and laser elevations to meet plan tolerances
- Load/unload trucks, place and spread material, and assist paving crews or subgrade preparation as directed
- Coordinate with crew members and supervisors, follow traffic control plans and maintain a clean, safe work area
What we're looking for
- Proven hands-on experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment on civil/sitework projects
- Ability to perform general heavy equipment maintenance and report mechanical issues
- Comfort reading site plans, grade stakes and following survey/laser indications
- Experience with paving prep, grading tolerances and material placement
- Willingness to travel to job sites nationwide and work extended shifts when projects demand
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license; Class A CDL preferred where needed for hauling
- Operator certifications (NCCER or equivalent) or demonstrable on-the-job experience
- OSHA 10-hour card preferred; OSHA 30-hour is a plus
- Ability to pass company-required drug screen and background check
- Physical ability to lift, climb on equipment and work long hours in outdoor conditions
What we offer
- Project-based work across multiple regions — opportunities for consistent, ongoing assignments
- Travel assignments with per diem or site lodging when applicable
- Safety gear and site-specific safety training provided
- Paid time off and access to medical, dental and vision coverage (plan details vary by assignment)
- Employer-sponsored training and equipment certification opportunities to advance skills
