Structural Ironworker

About This Role

Seeking experienced ironworkers in Abilene, Texas to perform structural and miscellaneous steel erection on commercial and industrial projects. This is hands-on field work for tradespeople comfortable with rigging, reading construction drawings, and working at heights. You will join site crews to erect structural and ornamental steel, set precast, install scaffolding systems, and assist with related concrete and formwork tasks. Safety, teamwork, and steady attendance are required — overtime is available on many projects.

What You'll Do

  • Erect structural and ornamental ironwork: beams, columns, stairs, railings, and misc. steel
  • Read and follow construction drawings, shop drawings, and site layout for accurate placement
  • Rigging, set-up and placement of precast units and coordination with crane operators
  • Install and dismantle scaffolding systems (frame & brace, system scaffolding) and enforce fall protection
  • Collaborate with site crews and supervisors; follow site safety procedures and keep work area clean
  • Perform related tasks as needed: concrete placement support, concrete formwork carpentry, demolition, and site cleanup

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience with structural ironwork, rigging, and steel erection
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and site layout plans
  • Experience with scaffold installation (frame & brace, system scaffolding) and enforcing safety procedures
  • Precast erection experience and basic concrete formwork/carpentry skills
  • Working knowledge of building codes, industry safety standards, and fall protection
  • Ability to work at heights, lift heavy materials, and perform physical outdoor construction work

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 (required) or OSHA 30 preferred
  • Rigger & Signalperson certification preferred
  • NCCER or equivalent trade credential preferred
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Ability to communicate in English; Spanish bilingual a plus
