Tunnel Boring Machine Mechanic

About This Role

Join a major tunnel project in Manchester, NH as a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Mechanic. This is an hourly, nonexempt role starting at $56/hr DOE. You will keep the TBM and related systems running — diagnosing issues, performing preventative maintenance, and making field repairs to pumps, gearboxes, valves and drive systems. Work is physically demanding and takes place above ground and underground in confined, wet, and noisy conditions. You’ll work closely with engineers, operators and safety staff, follow strict safety procedures, be available for occasional overtime or on-call emergencies, and keep clear maintenance records.

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair TBM components, pumps, gearboxes, drive systems and valves.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and field repairs to keep the machine operating at full capacity.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders and parts records.
  • Communicate problems and repairs clearly with foremen, engineers and operators.
  • Work safely in confined and underground spaces, follow lockout/tagout and site safety procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on TBM mechanic or tunneling equipment experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hydraulic, diesel powertrain and heavy-equipment systems experience.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics and blueprints and perform root-cause troubleshooting.
  • OSHA 10 certification (required); strong safety orientation and ability to follow written procedures.
  • Physically able to lift 40+ lbs., stoop, crawl and work in confined/variable climate conditions; willing to work nights, weekends and on-call as needed.

  • OSHA 10 (required)
  • 5+ years TBM or tunneling equipment mechanic experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid U.S. work authorization and ability to pass drug screen/background check
  • Valid driver’s license (preferred)
  • English proficiency for verbal and written safety and work communications
